Vaping is Earth Friendly With Less Carbon Footprint

How is Vaping Greener Than Smoking?

Planet Earth is the only one we have, so it pays to take care of her. Don’t we all want to live in a cleaner environment? Well, the inevitable outcome of switching from smoking cigarettes to vaping is great for Mother Earth. In turn, we can have cleaner air and less trash, and that results in better health for us. If you are at all concerned about making good choices for the environment, then you will happy to hear that vaping is Earth friendly.

Some of these eco-friendly attributes include the use of rechargeable and recyclable batteries, the elimination of cigarette butts, no more tar and thousands of chemicals going into our lungs, the reduced need for tobacco farming, and the elimination of accidental fires from discarded cigarettes. Lets take a closer look at why vaping is Earth friendly. Is The Best Online Vape Shop. Free Shipping. Shop Now!

Batteries Are Recharged and Recycled

Everyone has heard about the three Rs, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.” Well, the three Rs are easy to do if you vape. Vapers don’t produce cigarette butts, which we talk about more in the next section. This substantially reduces what goes into the landfill. Additionally, the batteries are reusable.  The lithium ion versions are charged and used over and over again. And lastly, when it’s time to dispose of your batteries you can recycle them easily by dropping them into one of those recycling bins conveniently placed at grocery or hardware stores. Online resources like Call2Recycle can help you find local recycling stations.

No Cigarette Butts

Cigarettes butts are not only an eye sore, but they are also harmful to the environment. Trillions, yes, trillions of cigarette butts are discarded all over the place every year. What most people don’t realize is that they’re made of plastic. These butts are composed of cellulose acetate or thermoplastic polymer, which is simply plastic. Cigarette butts take up to ten years to decompose, meaning the harmful effects of discarded cigarette butts can stay around for a long, long time.

Fortunately, vaping does not involve the use of anything that must be disposed of each time you vape. E-Liquid bottles are usually made of glass or plastic and they can be reused or recycled like any other glass or plastic bottle.

Reduction in Chemical Exposure

Tobacco contains at least 4,000 chemicals, including formaldehyde, ammonia, tar, arsenic, acetone, and carbon monoxide. All of these harmful chemicals are released into the air during smoking. This won’t happen with vaping because there is tobacco isn’t being ignited. Recently, a study by 4th Workplace and Indoor Aerosols Conference found that e-cig particles dissipate rather quickly. According to the study, the liquid droplets evaporate quickly upon exhalation, and the vapor evaporates much faster than smoke.  Breathing clean air is a right that everyone should have, and vaping is far superior than cigarettes in this regard.

Reduction in Tobacco Farming

The social costs of smoking cigarettes begins with tobacco farming. Huge amounts of land are being allocated for tobacco production instead of food. According to Wikipedia, 4.2 million hectares of land were used to farm tobacco around the world in 2000. Just for reference, one hectare is about two and a half acres. Especially in developing countries, more food production is needed to feed local populations.

Another major issue with tobacco farming is the usage of many pesticides and fertilizers. When toxic chemicals get into the soil, water, and surrounding food sources, people and animals can suffer health effects. Children may develop neurological damage as a result of such chemicals. Also, farmers who may not know how to adequately protect themselves also have health consequences.

Tobacco farming poses yet another problem. This one directly impacts our environment. Trees are cleared for land, and they are burned to process tobacco where there is little access to natural gas or coal resources. “Brazil alone uses the wood of 60 million trees per year for curing, packaging, and rolling cigarettes.” (Wikipedia: Cultivation of Tobacco). The stripping of trees results in declining habitat for native plant and animal species, increases erosion and runoff into waterways, and decreases the amount of carbon dioxide uptake (more carbon dioxide goes into the environment).

No Accidental Fires

Cigarettes are flammable, and if left smoldering, they can accidentally cause a fire.

According to the American Burn Association, about 900 people in the United States die each year in fires started by cigarettes, and about 2,500 are injured. About 100 of the fire deaths each year are children and nonsmokers. Nationally, annual human and property costs of fires caused by careless smoking total about $6 billion. In 1997, there were more than 130,000 cigarette related fires.

Clear Air, Clear Choice

Let’s face it. Smoking causes a lot of impact to our planet (not to mention our health). Vaping is Earth friendly and its a good choice for our environment and our health. You get the same satisfaction of smoking, however, the carbon footprint is markedly less. So while you’re vaping, take a moment to pat yourself on the back, because your choice to switch is positively impacting the environment.

I started vaping in January 2011 and haven't had the desire to smoke a traditional cigarette since. It inspired me so much that I created this website to help others like me who want to quit smoking. I hope you enjoy the site and please leave a comment.
