My List of Best Vapes By Class
Each passing year brings the introduction of more advanced vaping devices. 2017 is certain to be no different. While a certain amount of parity among the manufacturers of vaporizers has emerged, there is still a line which clearly separates the best from the rest. Here are our current picks for best vapes in each electronic cigarette class.
Best Device to Quit Smoking: Pax JUUL
By now many of you have heard of Pax JUUL. This miniature vape pen is arguably one of the best devices for smokers to get off cigarettes. The Pax JUUL utilizes a pod filled with a nicotine salt based eLiquid that is high in nicotine content. Users experience a strong, yet smooth throat hit and decent vapor production. Using a Pax JUUL closely mimics the rewards one associates with cigarettes. I was hesitant to place this device in the “Best of” category because of the price for each pod. Each pod is basically good for one day of vaping and a pack of four costs $16.00. Paying $4.00 a day of a pod is not much different than what a cigarette pack costs. But rest assured, JUUL pods can easily be refilled with third party Nicotine Salt liquids, which will save users a lot of money. Each pod can be used multiple times before having to be discarded.
Best Cig-a-Like: G6 Starter Kit
If you want the comfort and stylishness of a cigarette without the harmful smoke, cig-a-likes are the way to go. Whether you’re totally new to the world of vaping or just looking for a handy standby ecig, the G6 Starter Kit from Halo Cigs makes it easy to get started.
The kit comes with everything you need in one package: two G6 batteries, five cartomizers, a USB charger, a wall charger, and a user manual. What really sets this cig-a-like kit apart from the competition, however, are its features.
Halo Cigs have designed the G6 Starter Kit to give you a smooth vaping experience every time. Their Thermoflow technology keeps your vape flowing at a steady rate, and the built-in Flameguard prevents your vape from burning. You can purchase pre-filled cartomizers or use the blank ones if you prefer adding your own juice. We’re particularly impressed with the generous vapor you get from this model, especially compared to what you’d normally find in a convenience store e-cig section.
The G6 Starter Kit is available in 9 different colors. When you order, you’ll also have your choice of batteries and cartomizers. The model is only $35.00, making it the best choice for a fast, easy, high-quality vape.
Best Above Ohm Vape Pen: Mig Vapor Mig 21 Clear Fusion
No matter how many tricked out sub ohm mods hit the market, a large number of vapers are still going to prefer the simplicity of a vape pen or disposable e-cigarette. The Mig Vapor Mig 21 ranks at the top for above ohm vape pens thanks to its battery life and vapor volume.
The Mig 21 uses a 140mm 380 mAh battery which can deliver a generous 4.2v. That’s intense for a vape pen, and the correspondent result is that you’ll be charging less and vaping more. Recharging doesn’t take long, either, and when you buy the Mig 21 Clear Fusion Vape Kit you’ll get two batteries.
A better battery also translates to more vapor production, and the Mig 21 simply exceeds all other vape pens in this area. If there is a common criticism of vape pens, it is vapor volume. This slim and powerful rig’s vapor production is just one reason why it has been named Best E-Cig of the Year three times in a row.
Best Sub Ohm Vape Pen: Morpheus Vape Mod
Prefer a full-fledged vaping experience but like to keep things simple? We recommend taking a look at the Morpheus Vape Mod.
If there’s one word to describe this pen mod from Mig Vapor, it’s durability. The mod is made of carbon fiber and stainless steel to prevent wear. The Morpheus comes with a set of five rubber seals to protect the battery from damage. It also features a non-crusting drip tip. With a dual air flow cloud making tank, you can count on getting a massive amount of vapor from this user friendly sub-ohm device. Just check out my review below to see a video of me making some serious clouds on this device.
The Morpheus Vape Mod is also long-lasting. Its 3000 mAh battery cell is capable of running for several hours between charges, and re-charging is as easy as connecting to a USB device.
Mig Vapor is currently selling the Morpheus Vape Mod for $89.95. The pen comes in your choice of black or silver. You can also add a five-pack of 0.2 or 0.4 ohm coils for $16.95, and a wall charger plug for $5.95.
Best Above Ohm Stealth Device: eLeaf iCare Mini
Does size really matter? To some vapers, it does indeed. The eLeaf iCare Mini was designed for those individuals who value discretion. Slightly smaller than a box of Tic-Tacs and available in a variety of pastel colors, the iCare Mini is not easily identified as a vaping device. It measures a scant 1″ x 0.5″ x 3″. Yet, for it’s size, this vaping device has a respectable feature set.
It will hold 1.3 ml of e-liquid, a perfect amount if you want a device to tuck in a pocket and take along while you’re out shopping or having dinner. The battery is rated at 320 mAh which is more than enough for a few hours of vaping, and the unit has a 15w max output. I mean, let’s be real. This is a device suited for stepping away and taking a couple of quick draws, so the power is sufficient. The device is filled from the top, and perhaps its best feature is an intuitive on/off function that turns the vaporizer on when you vape.
Without getting into the whole vapor vs. tobacco debate, let’s just get something on the table. Whichever one you prefer, and let’s hope you prefer vaping, there are situations that demand discretion. With the eLeaf iCare Mini, it is very easy to excuse yourself, have a quick vape, and return to your regularly scheduled programming. You won’t even smell bad, either, when you do.
Best Sub Ohm Stealth Device: Tesla Stealth 40W
Okay, so traditional e-cig users aren’t the only ones who value stealth on occasion. Some sub ohm vapers are so attached to their preferred style of vaping that they also like to keep a compact device on hand. We’re not big on absolutes, but the Tesla Stealth 40W device is the best compact sub ohm device on the market.
This device measures 1.8″ x 1.1″ x 2.4″ and will disappear in the palm of your hand faster than a magician can say “Hocus Pocus!” But, wait! What about the dimensions of the tank, you say. The tank is hidden inside of the mod. Well, mostly hidden. Everything but the drip tip is submerged and protected behind this little mod’s zinc alloy chassis. By protected we mean you can virtually say goodbye to breaking the glass on a tank when you drop the mod.
Small though it might be, the Tesla Stealth 40W has some impressive specs. It has an OLED screen and a simple three-button operation. The up and down buttons are concealed on the bottom of the mod while the fire button is positioned at the top. The mod has both VW and TC modes with multiple coil options. The 1300 mAh battery will power many vaping sessions, and pass-through lets you vape while you recharge. A temperature range of 200-600F gives you the same versatility as a full size mod.
Best Fire and Vape Box Mod: Tesla Invader 3
If you are all about power and don’t need an abundance of functionality to be a happy vaper, the Tesla Invader III lives up to its name. It cuts through the fuss of sub ohm vaping like the Visigoths cut through ancient Rome.
Designed especially for those who prefer low resistance RDAs or low resistance tanks with lots of airflow, the Tesla Invader III has a fire button and a potentiometer. You can adjust the voltage to five different settings, and the range is 3.6-6.6V. Pure power is the goal here. Mission accomplished.
The mod can accommodate most 22-24mm atomizers and supports the use of Clapton, Tiger, Hive, and Quad Twisted wiring arrangements. The mod sort of looks like a gas can, and we’re not sure if that was done on purpose. If it was, bonus points for Tesla. You don’t need a lot of bells and whistles to chase clouds, and this mod can go toe-to-toe in that arena with fancier models.
Best TC Box Mod: Sigelei Fuchai 213 Plus
The Sigelei Fuchai 213 Plus was designed for people who want more control over their coils. Simply selecting a coil type for Temperature Control may be adequate for many vapers, but if precision TC for speciality coils is needed, the Fuchai 213 Plus is the answer.
The Fuchai 213 Plus offers five presets for Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (TCR) as well as five presets for Temperature Factor of Resistivity (TFR). TFR is claimed to be a much more accurate way of dialing in a TC setting.
Other features include:
Preheating Power: The ability to preheat your coil by dialing in the wattage settings and selecting a time period ranging from 0.1 to 9.99 seconds.
Temperature Compensation Settings – Dialing in the ambient temperature in order for the Fuchai 213 Plus to more accurately apply TC to the coils.
Best Value Box Mod: Aspire Archon
Aspire has proven time and again that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get a decent box mod, and the Aspire Archon is destined to become the brand’s standard bearer of value. Priced below $50, the device has numerous features that are customary on more expensive rigs.
For starters, the mod offers 150W of power. That puts it right up there with many superior mods. It is the customization options, however, that earned the Archon the distinction of best value. You can access more than 15 functions via the mod’s button configuration, and it is even possible to customize your own firing profiles tailored to different tanks.
Another plus is that the mod can be upgraded as new firmware is released by Aspire. As vaping technology evolves, the Archon will evolve right along with it. That alone makes this device more than a mere box mod. It’s an investment.
Best Vaporizer: VaporFi Atom
Without question, the VaporFi Atom deserves a spot on our Best Vaporizer list. Features like motion sensing technology and a huge built-in 3000 mAh battery put this dry herb vaporizer at the top of its class. It permits basic temperature control and the oven does a superb job by spreading heat over a vast surface area. This is especially important in vaporizers of this type. Too little heat will fail to yield vapor, and too much will render a burnt taste. VaporFi has applied their design skills efficiently in this device by shoring up the parts which are most important and keeping everything else simple.
The VaporFi Atom is compact and discreet, just as a vaporizer of this type should be. You can easily drop it in a pocket. The mouthpiece is food grade which goes a long way toward preserving flavor. The one aspect of this vaporizer that might seem puzzling to some users is the whole motion sensing thing to determine battery power. You have to shake the unit to observe how much battery life remains. Even so, if a dry herb vaporizer is your thing, you’d be hard pressed to find one that can consistently outperform the Atom.
Best All Around Box Mod
This was a hard choice to make, so it’s a push between these two superior mods.
1. SMOK Alien 220W
There really isn’t any category in which the SMOK Alien 220W box mod fails to outperform its competition. The vast functionality and customization options coupled with its sheer power make the Alien king. For now. We won’t go so far as to say it won’t be toppled from the throne at some point, but it’s going to take a sheer beast to do it. If a mod emerges in the next year that can jump start a Chevy, we’ll gladly change our position. Because that is about the only thing this mod can’t do.
Without rehashing all of the attributes mentioned above, let’s leave it at this. The SMOK Alien is the best-selling mod hands down over the last few months, and that happened without an overly-aggressive marketing campaign by the brand. The answer: word gets around in the sub ohm vaping community. The Alien doesn’t just talk the talk, it delivers.
2. Vaporesso Tarot Pro
There is a very simple reason the Vaporesso Tarot Pro gets to share some of the SMOK Alien’s cloud: value. In a head-to-head matchup the Tarot Pro might come up short, but not by much.
At less than $75, the Tarot Pro offers a durable zinc alloy, aluminum alloy, and carbon fiber chassis, a vivid 0.91″ OLED display, and a comfortable ergonomic design. The unit is slightly larger than a deck of playing cards, so it has some heft. With a range of 5-160W and variable voltage of 0-8.5V, there is plenty of power here for voluminous clouds of vapor. The mod supports resistances of 0.5-5 ohms. If you want an advanced mod for less than what you’ll pay for the Alien, the Tarot Pro is the premium choice. The cards reveal that you will be pleased!
